IAM 751 candy drive to make Halloween sweeter

SEATTLE — Machinists Union District Lodge 751 is once again teaming with the Salvation Army to make Halloween sweeter for the children of White Center.

candydrivecroppedUnion members are collecting candy for the Salvation Army’s annual Halloween party in White Center, which provides a safe alternative to trick-or-treating for children in that community.

Donations of unopened, individually wrapped candy can be dropped through Friday, Oct. 28, at any IAM 751 union hall in Puget Sound, including the Seattle Union Hall at 9125 15th Place S., in South Park.

Last year, union members collected close to 600 pounds of candy, which provided plenty of treats for the Halloween party with enough left over to cover their Christmas party too.

“Lots of kids and families benefited from your organization’s generosity,” said Maj. Raymond Erickson-King, who was formerly the Salvation Army’s senior officer in White Center.

Originally formed in 1935 by hourly workers at the Boeing Co., District Lodge 751 of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers now represents nearly 32,000 working men and woman at 53 employers across Washington and California.
