Union plans 13th annual charity horseshoes tourney

RENTON — Members of Machinists Union Local Lodge 751-E will pitch in for charity this summer at the 13th annual Shoes for Puppies horseshoes tournament.

horseshoes27The tournament will start at noon Aug. 13 at the Red Dog Saloon, 18606 Renton-Maple Valley Rd. SE.

The cost is $50 per player. Entry forms will be available at all Machinists Union District Lodge 751 union halls in Puget Sound, including the Renton Union Hall at 233 Burnett Ave. N.

The tournament is a fundraiser for Guide Dogs of America, the California-based charity that provides service dogs and training in their use free of charge to people who are blind or have impaired vision from across the United States and Canada. Last year’s tournament raised more than $3,300.

IAM Local 751-E is affiliated with IAM District 751, which is the top fundraiser for Guide Dogs of America. Over the past seven years, the union has raised more than $2 million for the charity.

Originally formed in 1935 to represent hourly workers at the Boeing Co., District Lodge 751 of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers now represents more than 32,000 working men and women at 53 employers across Washington, Oregon and California.

    Looking forward to the tourney. My brother and I have won 2 out of the last 3. Looking forward to do it again. Great charity.
