Machinists set date for 2016 charity golf tournament

REDMOND — Machinists Union District Lodge 751‘s annual Guide Dogs of America Charity Golf Tournament will be Sunday, July 17, at Willows Run Golf Complex in Redmond.

Golf2The tournament will be a scramble format with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. A trophy will be awarded to the first-place team with a cash prize for each winning team member.

A chance to win individual prizes will be offered for the longest drive and closest to the pin. All other prizes will be raffled off at the end.

The cost is $110, which covers greens fees, cart rental, tournament t-shirts, prizes and a buffet at the end of play.

Entry forms are available at all IAM 751 union halls in Puget Sound. Information also is available by calling the union’s Everett Union Hall at (425) 335-8821.

The tournament is a benefit for Guide Dogs of America, the California-based charity that provides service dogs, and training in their use, free of charge to people who are blind or have impaired vision from across the United States and Canada.

District 751 is one of Guide Dogs of America’s top fundraisers. Over the past seven years, the union has raised more than $2 million for the charity.

Last year’s golf tournament attracted nearly 200 golfers and raised more than $14,000.

Originally formed in 1935 by hourly workers at the Boeing Co., District Lodge 751 of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers now represents more than 32,000 working men and women at 53 employers across Washington and California.
