Clothing drive to benefit IAM 751 hardship fund
SEATTLE — If your New Year’s resolutions included cutting the clutter in your closets, Machinists Union District Lodge 751 can help.
The union’s Machinists Volunteer Program Committee will hold a used clothing drive in January to raise money for its hardship fund.
The MVP Committee will accept the following items, in good condition:
Clothing, shoes, hats, purses or wallets, scarves and ties, belts, bedding, towels and table cloths.
Donations can be left during regular business hours from Jan. 18 through Jan. 29 at any IAM 751 union hall in Puget Sound.
At the end of the drive, union volunteers will transport the donations to Value Village for a payment of 20 cents to the hardship fund for every pound of donated items.
Originally formed in 1935 by hourly workers at the Boeing Co., District Lodge 751 of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers now represents more than 33,000 working men and women at 52 employers across Washington and California.
