Local 86 Machinists ratify deal with Kenworth Sales

SPOKANE VALLEY — Machinists Union members who work as diesel truck mechanics at Kenworth Sales recently approved a three-year contract.

KenworthVoteThe deal calls for  wage increases, improved health and safety language and a time limit for managers to complete reviews needed for merit raises. The company also committed to pay any surcharges needed to maintain pensions for the 20 workers, who are members of Machinists Union Local Lodge 86.

The contract was approved with an 84-percent yes vote on Nov. 25.

This is the first multi-year contract between Kenworth Sales and the Local 86 Machinists, who have been union members since 2003. All previous contracts were one-year agreements.

Originally formed in 1935 by hourly workers at the Boeing Co., District Lodge 751 of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers now represents more than 33,000 working men and women at 52 employers across Washington and California. In Eastern Washington, they are represented by a network of local lodges that includes Local 86 in Spokane, Local 1123 in Wentachee and Local 1951 in Richland.
