Machinists ‘proud to stand with teachers in Seattle’

GiddensPix1SEATTLE — Machinists Union District Lodge 751 sends the following message to members in regards to the strike by members of the Seattle Education Association:

Teachers do one of the most-important jobs in America.

District 751 is proud to stand with teachers in Seattle as they take a stand for the children in our communities. These educators have bargained in good faith seeking a better school life for our community’s children. Their fight is the right one, and we join them in their struggle for justice.

As a Machinists Union member, you can take action to help the teachers by joining their picket line at your local school or by emailing the school board directors at schoolboard@seattleschools.org with this message:

As school board members, you need to support our educators, support our children and support our communities by resolving the outstanding issues brought forth by the bargaining members that triggered the strike, which include:

  • Reasonable testing for students;
  • Workload relief;
  • Eliminating proposals for teachers to work additional time for free;
  • Fair teacher and staff evaluations; and
  • Professional pay for professional work.

Originally formed in 1935 to represent hourly workers at the Boeing Co., District Lodge 751 of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers now represents more than 33,000 working men and women at 52 employers across Washington and California.
