IAM 751 motorcycle event raises $9,300 for charity

SEATTLE – Machinists Union District Lodge 751’s 13th annual Puppy Putt motorcycle event raised more than $9,300 for charity.

PuppyPuttArtThe event, held July 11, attracted nearly 50 motorcycle riders, who left from staging areas in Marysville and Lacey and rode to IAM 751’s Seattle Union Hall for an afternoon of food, music and motorcycle-themed fun.

Northwest Harley-Davidson in Lacey and Sound Harley-Davidson in Marysville were major sponsors again this year, but Puppy Putt is an “all breed” event that’s open to riders of all makes and models of motorcycles, said Terri Myette, the chairwoman of the organizing committee.

“We had great sponsors and great volunteers again this year, and we had a lot of fun raising money for a very worthy cause,” she said.

All proceeds are going to Guide Dogs of America, the California-based charity that provides service dogs and training in their use free of charge to people who are blind or have impaired vision from across the United States and Canada.

District 751 is the No. 1 fundraiser for Guide Dogs of America. Over the past six years, union volunteers have raised nearly $1.8 million for the charity.

Originally formed in 1935 to represent hourly workers at the Boeing Co., District Lodge 751 of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers now represents nearly 34,000 working men and women at 52 employers across Washington and California.
