Machinists set date for 2015 charity golf tournament

REDMOND — Machinists Union District Lodge 751’s annual Guide Dogs of America Charity Golf Tournament is coming again to Willows Run Golf Complex.

Golf13The scramble format tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. July 19 at the course, which is at 10402 Willows Road in Redmond.

Registration costs $100, which covers greens fees, cart rental, a tournament t-shirt and a buffet after the end of play. The tournament field is limited to 280 golfers.

A trophy will be awarded to the first-place team, with a $100 cash prize to each winning team member. A chance to win individual prizes will be offered for hole-in-one, longest drive and closest to the pin.

Entry forms are available at all IAM 751 union halls in Puget Sound. Entry forms can be requested by calling District 751’s Everett Union hall at (425) 355-8821.

The deadline to sign up and pay for registration is July 10.

Last year’s tournament drew some 200 golfers and raised more than $15,000 for Guide Dogs of America, the California-based charity that provides service dogs and training in their use free of charge to people who are blind or have impaired vision from across the United States and Canada.

District 751 is the top fundraiser across North America for the charity. Over the past six years, the union’s members have raised nearly $1.8 million for Guide Dogs of America.

Originally formed in 1935 to represent hourly workers at the Boeing Co., District Lodge 751 of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers now represents more than 33,000 working men and women at 51 employers across Washington and California.
