Union members proud to build next Air Force One
SEATTLE — Jon Holden, the president of Machinists Union District Lodge 751, had the following statement after the U.S. Air Force announced it has decided on Boeing’s 747-8 to be the next generation of “Air Force One” presidential transports:
“Machinists Union members, as well as our brothers and sisters in SPEEA, are proud that the U.S. Air Force has chosen the 747-8 to be the next Air Force One.
“The 747 has a rich history, that began with The Incredibles who built the first 747s that forever changed the Boeing Co. and the airline industry. The latest model, the 747-8, is a great platform that is truly beautiful to see in flight.
“It is a great feeling to know that the product of our hard work will be used in the service of our country.”
Originally formed in 1935 to represent hourly workers at Boeing, District Lodge 751 of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers now represents more than 33,000 working men and woman at 51 employers across Washington and California.
