Team 751 taking part in Seattle breast cancer walk
SEATTLE — Team 751 will once again take part in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Seattle.
Individuals can make donations at Team 751’s page on the Making Strides event website or with any member of the Women’s Committee at Machinists Union District Lodge 751. The union is also selling Team 751 shirts, with the proceeds from sales going to the event.
The walk is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society to help fund breast cancer research and provide mammograms for women who need them.
Team 751’s participation in the walk is part of an effort by the union’s Women’s Committee to promote breast cancer awareness during October.
“Great strides have been made to ensure that more birthdays are celebrated each year,” said committee Chairwoman Grace Holland. “But the battle is not over.”
The Cancer Society recommends that women older than 40 should get annual mammograms and breast cancer exams. In addition, everyone can reduce their breast cancer risks by maintaining a healthy weight, being physically active on a regular basis and by limiting alcohol consumption.
Originally formed in 1935 to represent hourly workers at the Boeing Co., District Lodge 751 of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers now represents more than 33,000 working men and women at 51 employers across Washington and California.
