Eastern Wash. Machinists raise $5,725 for Guide Dogs

SPOKANE — Members of Machinists Union District Lodge 751 from across Eastern Washington raised $5,725 for charity with a recent prize drawing.

FunRun2“We’d like to think everyone who donated prizes for the drawing, especially Ranch & Home, which provided the $1,000 gift certificate that was our grand prize,” said Steve Warren, who is IAM 751’s business rep for Eastern Washington.

District 751 has three local lodges in Eastern Washington: Local 86 in Spokane, Local 1123 in Wenatchee and Local 1951 in Richland.

Last year, the Eastern Washington locals combined to raise more than $11,500 for Guide Dogs of America, the California-based charity that provides service dogs and training in their use free of charge to people who are blind or have impaired vision from across the United States and Canada. District 751 is the No. 1 fundraiser for Guide Dogs of America, having raised nearly $1.5 million over the past five years, including a record $384,000 in 2013.

Originally formed in 1935 to represent hourly workers at the Boeing Co., District Lodge 751 of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers now represents more than 32,000 working men and women at 50 employers across Washington, Oregon and California.
