Shoe-in: Union plans charity horseshoes tournament
MAPLE VALLEY — The 11th annual Shoes for Puppies horseshoes tournament will return to Maple Valley in August.
The cost is $50 per player. Entry forms are available at all Machinists Union District Lodge 751 union halls in Puget Sound.
The tournament is a fundraiser for Guide Dogs of America, the California-based charity that provides service dogs and training in their use free of charge to people who are blind or have impaired vision from across the United States and Canada. Last year’s tournament raised more than $3,500.
IAM Local 751-E is affiliated with IAM District 751, which is the top fundraiser for Guide Dogs of America. Over the past five years, the union has raised nearly $1.5 million for the charity, including a record $384,000 in 2013.
Originally formed in 1935 to represent hourly workers at the Boeing Co., District Lodge 751 of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers now represents more than 32,000 working men and women at 50 employers across Washington, Oregon and California.
