Flight for Sight run raises $15,000 for Guide Dogs

Race startEVERETT — Nearly 200 runners and walkers took part in this year’s Flight for Sight fun run, which generated more than $15,000 for charity.

This year’s run attracted about 30 percent more participants than in 2012. The runners took part in timed 5K or 10K races over a course certified by USA Track & Field. Their results are posted online at www.flightforsight.com.

There also was a non-competitive one-mile walk.

The annual event is sponsored by the Women’s Committee at Machinists Union District Lodge 751 and is a fundraiser for Guide Dogs of America, a charity that provides trained guide dogs to people with impaired vision.

Women’s Committee Chairwoman Grace Holland thanked the volunteers who put on the race. “Their support ensured the event ran smoothly.”

Originally formed in 1935 to represent hourly workers at the Boeing Co., District Lodge 751 of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers now represents more than 33,000 working men and women at 49 employers across Washington, Oregon and California. Over the past four years, District 751 has raised more than $1 million for Guide Dogs of America, including a record $299,000 collected in 2012.
