Eastern Wash. Machinists set fundraising record
Machinists Union members in Eastern Washington have so far raised nearly $7,000 for Guide Dogs of America this year — a record amount.
As of the first of July, Machinists Union Local Lodges 86, 1123 and 1951 had raised $6,936 for the charity, with one more event still to be held that was expected to bring in hundreds of dollars more.
A report on the Eastern Washington lodges’ fundraising events is included in the current issue of the Eastern Washington Machinists News, which is now available online.
The Ranch & Homes stores in the Tri-Cities are major supporters of the Machinists Union’s Guide Dogs of America fundraisers in Eastern Washington. Members of Local 1951 set up a booth and sold raffle tickets at the company’s Kennewick store for three days this summer.
Along with selling tickets, union members also handed out information about the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers.
“We gave away a lot of union packets,” said Staff Assistant Ken Howard. “It was a good organizing tool that helped educate the public on the benefits of union membership.”
