Machinists plan 2012 Guide Dogs golf tournament

REDMOND — the 21st annual Guide Dogs of America Charity Golf Tournament will be July 15 at Willows Run Golf Course.

The tournament is sponsored by Machinists Union District Lodge 751 and is a fundraiser for Guide Dogs of America. The California-based charity provides guide dogs and instruction in their use free of charge to blind and visually impaired people from the United States and Canada.

The tournament will be a scramble format, with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. A trophy will be awarded to the first place team, along with $100 to each member of that winning team. A chance to win individual prizes will be offered for the longest drive, hole-in-one and closest to the pin, with a 50/50 payout. Other prizes will be raffled off after the tournament.

The tournament is limited to 280 players. The cost is $90 per player and the deadline to register a team is June 15.

Entry forms are available online and at the District 751 union halls in Auburn, Everett, Renton and Seattle. Specific information is available by calling the Everett Hall at 425-335-8821.

Originally formed in 1935 to represent hourly workers at the Boeing Co., District Lodge 751 of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers now represents more than 31,000 working men and women at 45 employers across Washington, Oregon and California. In 2011, members of the Machinists Volunteer Program built their 300th wheelchair ramp while other volunteers collected more than $263,000 for Guide Dogs of America, the union’s charity of choice.
