Machinists ratify contract with Central Pre-Mix

SPOKANE — Machinists Union members affiliated with District Lodge 751 have unanimously ratified a three-year contract with Central Pre-Mix Concrete Co.

The contract covers nine workers who maintain the company’s heavy equipment at Central Pre-Mix sites in Spokane and Pasco.

Details were not disclosed. A District 751 spokeswoman said the new agreement “secured wages and benefits for those employees for the next three years.”

Central Pre-Mix supplies a range of sand, gravel and concrete products for the construction industry. It is part of Oldcastle Inc., one of North America’s largest suppliers of building products and materials.

This is the fourth contract District 751 members in Spokane have ratified this year, and the third in the Tri-Cities.

In June, 335 Machinists at Triumph Composites  in Spokane ratified a three-year deal that guaranteed them a full-time job for the duration of the contract, something never before seen in the aerospace industry. A few weeks later, Machinists at ASC Machine Tools in Spokane Valley also ratified a new three-year pact. And in April, employees of defense contractor FlightSafety Services at Fairchild Air Force Base unanimously adopted a three-year contract that gave raises of 6.69 percent and more in the first year.

Meanwhile, in the Tri-Cities, new Machinists Union contracts with both Monarch Machine & Tool and Lee & Eastes Tank Lines were approved with wide margins. Both deals took affect in July, after voting being voted on in June.

Originally formed in 1935 to represent hourly workers at Boeing, Machinists District Lodge 751 now represents more than 25,000 working men and woman at 42 employers across Washington and California. District 751 provides services to members through a network of local lodges, including Local 86 in Spokane and Local 1951 in Richland.
