Machinists pitch in to raise $2,500 for charity
MAPLE VALLEY — More than 50 Machinists Union members and their families and friends pitched in on Aug. 14 to raise more than $2,500 at the Local 751-E Shoes for Puppies Horseshoe Tournament.
Machinists Local Lodge 751-E sponsors the annual tournament at the South Seattle Saddle Club. All proceeds go to Guide Dogs of America, a charity that provides service dogs to people who are blind or have impaired vision across North America.
“We had some new people and many old friends in attendance,” said Ira Carterman, the Local 751-E president. “Not everyone played, but I think everyone had a good time.”
Machinists District Lodge 751 – with which Local 751-E is affiliated – is a major supporter of Guide Dogs of America. Last year, the district raised nearly a quarter-million dollars for the charity.
Originally formed in Seattle in 1935 to represent hourly workers at Boeing, District 751 now represents more than 25,000 working men and women at 42 employers across Washington and California.
