Eastern Washington locals raise $4,600 for charity
WENATCHEE — Machinists Union members in Spokane, Wenatchee and the Tri-Cities raised $4,681 for charity in June through a prize raffle.
All proceeds from the drawing went to Guide Dogs of America. The International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers is a major supporter of Guide Dogs of America, which provides trained seeing-eye dogs for people across the United States and Canada who are blind or have impaired vision.
The grand prize in the June drawing — a $1,000 gift certificate for the Ranch and Home stores in the Tri-Cities — was won by Ernie Briggs, a member of Machinists Local 1123 in Wenatchee who works at Alcoa. Other top prizes were donated by Indian Canyon Golf Course in Spokane, the Davenport Hotel in Spokane and Anthony’s Restaurants.
The three Machinists Union local lodges — Local 86 in Spokane, Local 1123 in Wenatchee and Local 1951 in Richland — are all affiliated with Machinists District Lodge 751 in Seattle. Last year, District 751 raised nearly a quarter-million dollars for Guide Dogs, through various fund-raisers.
Originally formed in Seattle in 1935 to represent hourly workers at Boeing, District 751 now represents more than 25,000 working men and women at 42 companies and agencies across Washington and California, including more than 1,000 members of the three Eastern Washington lodges.
